How to Level Up Without Spending Money on Pokémon Go

So you want to be the very best. If you used to watch the anime series for Pokémon, you know that there are two ways to do this. For one, you can try and fill your inventory of Pokémon as much as you can. Traveling around the world trying to literally catch every single one of the 151 types of Pokémon out there at present is one way to go about this task. The other way is to engage in large scale Pokémon battles with other gyms. Conquest and power are another great way to get yourself placed at the very top of the list in terms of awesomeness. Whichever path you want to take, there is one thing that you need to focus on in order to succeed: your current level.

In order to go to the next level, you are going to need to earn a certain amount of XP. Experience Points, or XP, are earned when you do certain activities within the game. With each level you gain, the amount of XP that you need to progress to the next level is increased. To get from Level 1 to Level 2, you only need 1000 XP, but this changes as your progress continues.

What Gives You XP?

XP can be obtained in different ways. Discovering a Pokestop for the first time and visiting one every time thereafter will get you a small amount of XP. Catching Pokémon also awards you with XP rewards, although you are going to get different amounts based on the rarity of the Pokémon that you catch. Since Go is an adventure game, discovering new locations, species, and gyms are all activities that will grant you bonus XP.

For the new player who doesn’t want to have to spend real money trying to level up and catch up to their friends, this message is one of hope. You don’t have to spend any money at all to level up fast. First, you are going to need to find new Pokémon and evolve the ones you have. These give you the highest amounts of XP.

Find as Many Pokémon as You Can

Find a busy part of town. It is a lot easier to level up here. There is more stuff to do, items to pick up, and places to see in cities than in rural villages and towns. Then, catch every little thing that you possibly can. It doesn’t matter if you have seen that Pidgey a hundred times before. Catch it when you see it. 100XP per capture may not seem like a lot, but it is actually quite great for you when it stacks up. New Pokémon are worth 5x as much as one from a species you have seen before.

Evolve your Pidgey and Caterpies. These are the easiest to evolve, as they only need 12 candies each. They are also incredibly common Pokémon. Catch them and evolve them as much as possible, and you should see yourself leveling up in no time. There really isn’t a reason to ever have to spend money on this game!
